The Chaos Dimension
The Chaos Dimension is a visual representation of my mind, where consciousness takes form in the physical world.
I take you on a journey through memory, dreams, identity, and ancestry.
When I started creating ‘MaybeArt’, I was exploring the world of art and architecture as one. I see this world as a reflection of that. As we step through my consciousness, I’m taking you through a personal journey expressing my life: past, present, future, and mystical.

MEMORY & DREAMS
Presented as suspended moments in time in memory bubbles, I blur the lines between body and spirit, inviting you to step into my subjective experience of memory. Whilst others stay rooted in reality.
Across each section in the Chaos Dimension, I incorporate elements of my dreams.
My dreams are…interesting.
It's like I’m living in another reality in the multiverse, almost every night. It can be overwhelming but fun. Sometimes.
ANCESTRY
Exploring Adire and Ankara patterns, which hold ancestral significance for me through the work of my great-grandmother and grandmother, I am developing Ankara designs inspired by brain cells, presented throughout the Chaos Dimension.
I use dada poetry, automatism, and dreams to explore ancestral consciousness.
IDENTITY
Throughout the Chaos Dimension, I explore my physical identity and my authentic self.
I use paint pouring, automatism, and dada poems to channel my inner being and unleash hidden parts of my consciousness.
Using colour, I explore auras and the energy that exists beyond what our eyes can see, the forces that exist beneath the surface of reality.

New Worlds and New Narratives:
How can mythmaking and the production of alternate realities offer a way of imagining a life beyond oppressive structures?
This world stems on my research thesis
Chaos Dimension Portal (2023), Mixed Media Installation: Painting, Film, Sculpture, Print

Inspired by Simon O’Sullivan’s concepts of Fictioning and Michael Newton’s theories of the superconscious, I use the unconscious as a path to ancestral knowledge, the spiritual realm, and my true identity (the soul itself).
Through dream journaling and automatism, which reveal messages from the unconscious, I explore how suppressed histories and messages can resurface to give new perspectives on the future.
As the eldest daughter in an African home, I’m interested in generational trauma, the weight of inherited responsibility, growing up as an additional parent, and the tension between tradition and self-actualisation.
I'm invested in understanding how breaking these cycles can empower future generations.
Influences include:
-Négritude
- Afro-surrealism & Surrealism
-Futurism & Afrofuturism
- Psychology
- Yoruba Spirituality
- Decolonisation
- Black identity and the African Diaspora

I am deeply inspired by parallel universes and multiple realities, themes I explore throughout my work. The Chaos Dimension draws on the idea of a network of universes existing within a single mind.
As a neurodiverse Black woman, this concept serves as a coping mechanism in a world where I am often expected to appear completely put together.
I explore the complexity of neurodiversity and the internal conflicts it brings as I search for inner peace.

Consciousness & Fictioning

I'm heavily influenced by theories from hypnotherapist Micheal Newton. Newton's theories explore the existence of three circles within our minds: the conscious, unconscious, and superconscious.
According to Newton, our conscious mind possesses an in-built amnesia that prevents us from remembering the spirit realm.

Simon O’Sullivan’s theories on fictioning prompt us to shatter what’s real and fake within narratives.
However, through the superconscious, we can access this realm and uncover our true identities and possibly be the soul itself.
The significance of three circles splices its way into the chaos dimension as a symbol of these theories, as a portal revealing my consciousness.

Automatism & Dadaism

Automatism is the practice of writing or drawing without conscious thought.

In Interpretation of Dreams (1899) Freud speaks about automatism and how dreams can be used to understand the unconscious mind and psyche
I dream journal to look inwards (drawing on Freud and Jung’s theories) and use these to create journals to create Dada Poems

Dadaism embraces chance and absurdity, using randomness to challenge traditional ideas of art and meaning

Paint Pouring

I frequently use paint pouring in
this world
The paint spills reflect the overwhelming emotions I often experience.
The unpredictable movement of the paint adds an element of excitement and intensity to my creative process.

The process of pouring and moving paint allows me to metaphorically take control of my internal chaos.
It’s become a meditative practice for me, which opens a portal to the chaos dimension concealed within the canvas I choose.
Chaos Is the Calm I & II, Acrylic Pour on Canvas, 45 x 60 cm
I use it as a way to channel my inner being.
A few months before this picture, I was playing around with oil pastels & composition and created the piece you see below my hand.
After a paint pouring session, I was trying to get a nice shot of my hand and moved towards the window. Only to look down and realise I’d already drawn the moment a few months before.

The swirling patterns represent the fabric of this world.
